Saturday 7th March
Economics Dinner

It gives us great pleasure to invite you to an Economics, Land Economy and Management Studies Dinner taking place in College on Saturday 7 March 2015. The evening will be an opportunity for Members to meet with one another in the company of students and Fellows.
The event will begin with tea and coffee in the McGrath Centre at 5.45pm, followed by a lecture, given by Professor Gavin McCrone.
Professor McCrone read Economics at St Catharine's in 1954 and now specialises in the Scottish economy. In the 1960s he was a Fellow and Tutor in economics at Brasenose College, Oxford, before going on to become the Chief Economic Adviser to the successive Secretaries of State for Scotland over two decades. He has been head of two Scottish Government departments- the Industry Department for Scotland and the Scottish Development Department. Finally returning to University life in the 1990s as a Professor of Economics, first at Glasgow University and then at the Edinburgh University Business School. A revised edition of his book Scottish Independence: Weighing up the Economics was published earlier this year.
A drinks reception will take place in the McGrath Centre from 6.45pm. Dinner will be held at 7.30pm and the dress code for the evening is lounge suits.

Society - East Anglian - AGM and lunch with guest lecture

This will take place on Saturday the 21st March. We have taken to alternating a lunch with a dinner and this year it will be a buffet lunch in College after the lecture and AGM.

Society - Scotland Branch - Burrell Collection visit in Pollok Country Park in Glasgow

I would like to invite you to the next event of the Scottish Branch of the St Catharine's Society, which will be a visit to the Burrell Collection in Pollok Country Park in Glasgow, on Saturday 21 March 2015.  The Burrell Collection is due to close for four years from 2016, for renovation, and this will be a good opportunity to visit before the closure.  You are also invited to lunch with other Branch members at 1.30pm at the Restaurant in Pollok House which is nearby.

Saturday 21st March
Society - Wessex Branch - Lunch

The speaker will be Tony Murrell (1958).

Tony's subject is "No Problems - Only Opportunities" and is about his life with Reuters in the UK and abroad.

This event will be at a new venue: the Hampshire Golf Club just south of the A303 near Andover

Members Reunion 1963-1966

The Master and Fellows have the pleasure of inviting those who matriculated in the years 1963 - 1966 to a Reunion Dinner to be held in College on Saturday 28 March 2015.

From 5:30pm a specially commissioned exhibition can be viewed featuring memorabilia from the archives from the 1960s.  Weather depending, we will have a group photograph on the main court at 6:30pm, followed by a drinks reception at 6:45pm in the McGrath Centre.  Dinner will take place at 7:30pm in Hall.  The dress code for the dinner will be black tie.

We are able to provide overnight accommodation and breakfast at a cost of £33.85.  All rooms will be within the main College site and will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.

Saturday 25th April
Society - Ireland - Oxford and Cambridge Dinner

The next event in Ireland is the Oxford and Cambridge Dinner on Saturday 25 April. It is to be held in the Wellington Room of the Merrion Hotel, Dublin, which now occupies the row of Georgian houses in one of which the Duke was born, and the date is close to the bicentenary of the Battle of Waterloo.

Catzpeople will be invited to meet for a drink in a suitable hostelry before the dinner.


Saturday 9th May
Society - East Anglian - Visit to Lincoln to see Magna Carta
Visit to Lincoln to see Magna Carta. This visit is scheduled for Saturday May 9th. The visit to Lincoln last year was well subscribed and we decided to go back a second time as the Magna Carta is now on display as part of the 800 year anniversary. This visit will also do other things we couldn't include last year, such as a visit to the castle and a tour of the Cathedral roofspace and tower.

Society - Wessex Branch - Guided tour of Army Museum of Flying at Middle Wallop followed by lunch

Saturday 13th June
Marquee at the Bumps
Members of St Catharine's College and their guests are warmly invited to watch the final day of the May Bumps on Saturday 13 June from a marquee by the river at Osier Holt in Fen Ditton.

All-inclusive tickets include cakes, refreshments and an excellent view of the races. Grounds tickets are also available, for entry to the event only; refreshments can be purchased on the day. We are able to offer a limited number of parking spaces for the day.

Thursday 18th June
Society - St Catharine's Society at the House of Lords

Lord Horam (1957), President of St Catharine's Society, invites all members of the Society to an Evening Reception in the House of Lords. The evening will start at 6.30pm with drinks and canapes. A tour of the Palace will be available for those who are interested. Members are welcome to bring a guest; the price is £40 per person. The dress code is lounge suit or equivalent.

Saturday 20th June
Acheson-Gray Sports Day and Dinner

We would like to welcome you to the annual celebration of Acheson-Gray Sports Day, founded to encourage sport between College and alumni teams and named after Charles Acheson-Gray (1991), a keen College sportsman.

The event will take place on Saturday 20 June 2015, and matches in a variety of sports will be taking place from 11am. For details of fixtures please contact alumni captains, if you know them, or John Oakes directly on johnloakes.oakes@gmail.com.

Members returning to participate in the Sports Day are warmly invited to dine in College after the conclusion of the sports day. Regrettably in 2014 the Dinner did not take place in College due toinappropriate behaviour by some of our Members on a previous occasion. We sincerely hope that there will no similar issues in 2015 and look forward to welcoming you back for what promises to be a most enjoyable occasion.

 

The cost of the dinner will be £25 per person and will include drinks beforehand in the SCR followed by dinner in Hall.

Saturday 5th September
Society - South West Branch - The annual Garden Party in Lydford on the western edge of Dartmoor
This will start at 2:00pm with appropriate drinks and cream teas being served through the afternoon. Full travel directions will be sent to all who wish to attend, particularly for the first time! This has proved popular over the last few years with members travelling from all over the south west, and is a good opportunity for a local reunion for those who are unable to travel to Cambridge for the Society's Annual Reunion.

Society - Wessex - Lunch

The lunch is followed by "A Bishop, a Bike and some Beer" - John Dennis (1951) shares some of his experiences.

This event will be at the Esseborne Manor, a pleasant country hotel on the A343 between Newbury and Andover.
