Saturday 26th April
Acheson-Gray Alumni vs. College Sports Day, Saturday 26 April 2014

The annual Acheson-Gray Sports Day  will take  place on  Saturday  April 26, 2014, involving  cricket, tennis, hockey and netball matches between College  and  Alumni teams, and other  sports  expressing  interest.  

Teas will be provided in the pavilion. However, due to the timing of the quiet period it will not be possible to hold a dinner in hall.

Saturday 10th May
Society - East Anglia branch - Visit to Roman and Medieval Lincoln

Lincoln has been an important centre since Roman times. This visit with an experienced guide will introduce us to parts of this long history not normally open to the public and will finish with a tour of the Cathedral. Full details will be sent out in early March.

Monday 12th May
Society - Scotland Branch - Speaker Event: The Economics of an Independent Scotland

The next event of the Scottish Branch of the St Catharine's Society will be held on Monday 12 May 2014 at the New Club in Edinburgh. Professor Gavin McCrone, former Chief Economic Adviser to the Scottish Office and former senior civil servant in the Scottish Government, will be speaking to us on: "Weighing up the Economics of Scottish Independence"

Thursday 15th May
Society - London Branch - AGM and drinks - Devonshire House, 60 Goswell Road

The 2014 AGM of the London Society will be combined with a presentation by Sarah Conners, a PHD student at St Catharine's on her work on Global Warming. This will be followed by an opportunity to catch up with friends at the offices of Kingston Smith LLP, Devonshire House, 60 Goswell Road, EC1M 7AD. Tickets will be £15 each. Saturday 14th June
St Catharine's Marquee at the Bumps

Members are warmly invited to watch the final day of the May Bumps from a marquee by the river. Please join us for this quintessential part of Summer in Cambridge at Osier Holt in Fen Ditton.

All inclusive tickets cost £25 and include all drinks and refreshments throughout the afternoon and an excellent view of the races.

Ground tickets are also available at £10 and refreshments may be purchased on site.

Parking spaces may be reserved subject to availability at £6 for the day.

Bumps programmes may also be purchased from the marquee on the day with details of the course, race times, crew lists and starting order.

Thursday 31st July
Society - London Branch - Julius Caesar - The Globe, Southbank

We have managed to obtain 30 tickets for this performance of Julius Caesar at The Globe. Our seats are in two blocks in the Upper Gallery looking directly onto the stage - so we are under cover and will supply cushions. We will start the evening at The Swan (within The Globe) where we will meet from 6pm to share a glass of wine. The performance starts (promptly) at 7.30.

Wednesday 20th August
Society - London Branch - Battlefield Tour of Kings Cross
Lester Hilman has kindly offered to take us on a "Battlefield Tour" of the now revitalised Kings Cross Complex. After the tour we will refresh ourselves at one of the local hostelries. Further details will be posted later in the year.

Saturday 6th September
Choir Reunion

St Catharine's alumni who took part in the choir are warmly invited to attend a Reunion Dinner in College on Saturday 6 September. You are very welcome to bring a guest. There will be the opportunity for ex choristers to take part in a musical performance.

The event will begin with tea in the SCR at 4pm followed by a Choir rehearsal which you are invited to join. Evensong takes place at 6pm followed by a Drinks reception at 7pm and Dinner at 7.30pm. The dress code is black tie.

If you would like to attend the Dinner, which is priced at £45 per person, please proceed to the online registration form. We are able to provide overnight accommodation in College and breakfast at a cost of £32.25 per person. All rooms will be within the main College site and will be allocated on a first come, first served basis for those wishing to stay.

 We look forward to welcoming former Choir members and friends for a very special reunion.

Society - South West Branch - Annual Garden Party

As usual this will be held at Armstor House in Lydford on the western edge of Dartmoor. It will start at 2:00pm with appropriate drinks and cream teas being served through the afternoon. Full details will be sent to all who wish to attend, particularly for the first time!

Saturday 20th September
Members' Reunion (1993-95)

The Master and Fellows have the pleasure of inviting you to a Reunion Dinner to be held in College on Saturday 20 September.

From 5:30pm a specially commissioned exhibition can be viewed in the SCR featuring memorabilia from the archives from the 1950s. Weather dependent, we will be having a group photograph on the main court at 6:30pm, followed by a drinks reception at 6:45pm in the new McGrath Centre. Dinner will take place at 7:30pm in Hall. The dress code for the dinner will be black tie.

Saturday 27th September
College Society Reunion

All who have been admitted to St Catharine's as a student or any in any other academic capacity are invited. The Society Reunion is the only occasion when all Members, from the oldest to the youngest, can return to St Catharine's and enjoy the best that a weekend in Cambridge has to offer. The welcome extends to partners and Associate Members (i.e. those who, as next-of-kin of deceased Members, wish to keep in touch with the College). The Reunion therefore is a gathering that spans generations and is a diverse mix of experience and memories, but all rooted in affection for a place and a community that has beena formative influence in our lives. The preferred dress code is black tie for men and the equivalent for women. I hope you will be there this September. This event is at the Esseborne Manor Hotel between Newbury and Andover. The title of Richard's talk is "Beyond Reasonable Doubt: Catching Athletes Cheating with Drugs" - full details to follow.


Tuesday 21st October
St Catharine's at the Royal Society

The Master and Fellows are pleased to welcome you to an evening at the Royal Society in London. The Royal Society is the Fellowship of the World's most eminent scientists and is the oldest scientific academy in continuous existence. 

The evening begins with a tour of the premises in Carlton House Terrace (only for Members who have booked) at 5.45pm followed by a drinks reception at 6.30pm. At 7pm there will be a series of short lectures showcasing the work of some of our Junior Research Fellows in the Kohn Centre. This will be followed by further refreshments in the Marble Hall.


Tuesday 4th November
Society - London Branch Seminar and Drinks - Devonshire House, 60 Goswell Road

The evening will start with a presentation by Dr Peter Tyler, Land Economist and Fellow of St Catharine's, and will be followed by drinks and canapes. The total cost for the evening will be £15 per head. Please contact Heather Powell on hpowell@kingstonsmith.co.uk to book a place.

Geography Dinner

It gives us great pleasure to invite you to the Geography Dinner taking place in College on Saturday 8 November 2014. The evening will be an opportunity for all Members who studied Geography at St Catharine's to meet with one another in the company of students and Fellows.
The event will begin with tea and coffee served in the McGrath Centre at 4pm followed by a series of short lectures by Geography Fellows. The drinks reception will be held at 6.45pm and dinner will be held in Hall at 7:30pm.
The dress code for the evening is black tie or equivalent. The cost will be 50 pounds per person.

Saturday 22nd November
Law Dinner

It gives us great pleasure to invite you to a Law Dinner taking place in College on Saturday 22 November 2014. The evening will be an opportunity for all Members who studied Law at St Catharine's College meet with one another in the company of students and Fellows. The dinner has been organised in honour of Professor Sir John Baker who celebrates his 70th birthday during 2014.   

The event will begin with tea and coffee in the McGrath Centre at 5.45pm, followed at 6pm by a short lecture by Professor Sir John Baker, Honorary Fellow of St Catharine's College and Downing Professor of the Laws of England (Emeritus).

A drinks reception will take place in the McGrath Centre from 6:45pm. Dinner will be held at 7:30pm and the dress code for the evening is black tie. The cost will be £45 per person and you may bring a guest if you wish.
The ticket price ensures that all current students can attend at a subsidized cost.We very much hope that you will be able to join us for the occasion.
