St Catharine's welcomes its 39th Master

On Friday 30 September 2016, Professor Sir Mark Welland FRS FREng was admitted as the 39th Master of St Catharine’s College, succeeding Professor Dame Jean Thomas DBE ScD FRS FMedSci.

Professor Sir Mark Welland is Professor of Nanotechnology and Head of Electrical Engineering at the University of Cambridge, where he has established the Nanoscience Centre. Sir Mark is currently conducting research into a broad range of fundamental and applied problems, including using nanotechnology to understand and treat human diseases, biologically inspired nanomaterials for green technologies, and nanoelectronics for future generation energy transmission and sensing.

The same ceremony also admitted 11 new Fellows to College, including Honorary and Research Fellows, and Fellow Commoners. We welcome them, and Sir Mark, to St Catharine’s.
