St. Catharine's has a proud history of hockey success. Having our own astro, the Peter Boizot Artificial Turf aka the Catz Stadium of Dreams, has always attracted keen players to the college, who thrive in the active sporting and social scene the college has to offer. Both our mens and womens first teams play in the 1st divisions of college hockey, as well as being one of just two colleges with a mens second team who play in the 2nd division. Last year Catz won both mens and womens hockey cuppers.
College hockey is a great way to get involved in the sport. League games are played on Sundays throughout Michaelmas and Lent, as well as the fiercely contested cuppers knockout competition. Catz runs social evening training sessions on Fridays, which are well attended by serious players and those who have never played the sport before. CUHC also runs College Academy training sessions, to help develop the skills of college hockey players and give access to trained student coaches.
Those wanting to take their hockey more seriously often play for the university in addition to the college. Last year over half of the mens and womens first teams also represented the university in one of its 3 mens and 3 womens teams. All university players, except for those in the blues squad, can play college league hockey. Everyone (including the blues) plays for the college in the cuppers games.
For those starting next year, your freshers guide contains a description of the club, as well as the contact details of the captains for the upcoming season.
