Sports bursaries, gym membership and Caution Money

St Catharine's strongly encourages its students to make the most of sporting opportunities available at Cambridge, and to that end has a range of awards to support these activities.

Annual Fund Sports Bursaries

Thanks to the generosity of alumni, the College has funds available to undergraduate and graduate students, to assist with extra costs relating to competing at a high level of sport within the College and/or the University. Such costs may be incurred by the need to go on training camps during the university vacations, to pay extra College rent when staying in College accommodation for a particular sports related reason, or by the need to purchase specialised sporting equipment. However, this list in not exhaustive, and all applications for a Sports Bursary will be assessed with respect to the needs of the students concerned.

Applications for these Bursaries can be made at any time, using the form in the right sidebar. However, applications are only considered at three relevant meetings of the Tutors’ Committee, which fall just after the division of each term.

In 2016-17 this will be:

  • Friday 25 November 2016
  • Friday 24 February 2017
  • Friday 26 May 2017

Completed applications must be sent to the Senior Tutor and arrive at least one week before the relevant meeting. Only in exceptional circumstances will applications be considered at any other time. The applications must be complete (it is necessary to determine the degree of need of candidates, thus we must know of other sources of financial help and of parental contributions). Bursaries will range in size from £250 - £500. The awards will be made by the Tutors in consultation with the Senor Tutor and the Senior Treasurer of the Amalgamated Clubs
