Facilities

St Catharine's has a great range of facilities to enhance both your academic and social welfare at Cambridge.

Libraries

Access can be obtained to the college Libraries at all hours. They are designed as working libraries for all junior members. The Librarian is glad to be told of books which would be useful to undergraduates and requests may also be made through Directors of Studies. Library books may be borrowed for short periods, on the understanding that Library rules are properly observed.

Computing

Computers for use by junior members are available in the New Library and in computer rooms on the main site and at St Chad's. All undergraduate rooms have sockets allowing connection to the main University network. Students may need to purchase an appropriate card before their own computers can be connected to this network; details may be obtained from the Computer Officer.

Gym

The College has a small gym on the main site, containing professional free weights, and power racks, exercise bikes and rowing machines. Additional facilities are available at the Sports Pavilion and Boathouse.

College Bar

The College's stunning Bar in the basement of the McGrath Centre, completed in summer 2013, is open almost every evening during term time. We have also recently opened the Catz Café on weekdays, which serves a range of hot and cold drinks and snacks.

Careers

St Catharine's students usually find their time at the College is a springboard to a wide variety of exciting and rewarding careers. As a St Catharine's student, you will of course be able to ask for informal careers advice from your tutor, director of studies, and other staff, but you will also be able to call upon the services of the best university careers service in the UK - in fact, the Cambridge Careers Service gives Cambridge alumni life-long careers assistance. The College itself also supports students' career plans by providing financial help with internships, research placements and other career-related activities. The College Society - the alumnus group of which you will automatically become a member - is also active in providing careers advice from a large network of St Catharine's alumni, as well as a number of internship bursaries,

Sick bay

The College provides a sick bay and surgery. A fully qualified nurse is in charge and handles all minor injuries and ailments. Hours of attendance are posted in the Porters' Lodge and at the sick bay. These services are available only in Full Term.

Guests and guest rooms

Some guest rooms are available for students' guests and may be booked, for short periods, at the Porters' Lodge. Regulations concerning guests will be published by the Dean from time to time. Undergraduates may have guests in their rooms for a maximum of two nights and, for safety reasons, they must be signed in the guest book in the Porters' Lodge by 10.00 pm on the first night.
