Austronesian Asia: 400 million people, 4,000 years of history: Talk from Philip Bowring

Mr Philip Bowring (1960; Fellow Commoner), will be giving a talk in the McGrath Centre on Thursday 4 July.

Philip, who is descended from one of Britain’s most famous shipping families, has spent most of his career in South-East Asia. His latest book, Empire of the Winds: The Global Role of Asia's Great Archipelago, provides a history of the world's largest and most important archipelago and its adjacent coasts. He tells the story of the peoples and lands located at this crucial maritime and cultural crossroads, from its birth following the last Ice Age to today.

The talk will begin at 6.00pm in the McGrath Centre. The venue will be confirmed to all attendees prior to the event by email.

After the talk, there will be drinks in the McGrath Centre for attendees.

There is no charge to attend and this event is open to St Catharine's Members and non-Members.
