Statement – proposed USS pension changes

12:05, Tuesday 6 March 2018

Recent media reports suggest that St. Catharine’s and other Cambridge colleges have taken a view as to the acceptability of the revaluation and forward investment strategy proposed by the Trustee of the Universities Superannuation Scheme (USS) in September 2017.

St Catharine’s College wishes to clarify that it has neither taken nor expressed any such view. One Fellow of the College’s Governing Body offered the Fellow’s own view of the matter in response to a Universities UK consultation, indicating that the Fellow could not speak for St. Catharine’s because the College’s Governing Body had yet to discuss the matter.

The College holds no institutional view of the acceptability of that revaluation and the members of the Governing Body have diverse opinions.  The College joins the University’s Vice-Chancellor in welcoming the commitment to further talks between UCU and UUK to end the current strike.
