Looking forward to our Alumni Festival (13 March)

Thursday 4 March 2021

St Catharine’s is proud to be hosting an inaugural Alumni Festival on Saturday 13 March 2021. This festival gives the opportunity for all our 10,472 members to come together from across the globe, reconnecting friends in a world where distance is no longer a barrier to communication.

The Alumni Festival will take place between 14:00 and 16:00 GMT and will be divided into three sections:

  • There will be three lectures given by our Fellows with live Q and A sessions. Professor Abigail Brundin (2000) will be talking about policing religion in Renaissance Italy; Dr Simon Taylor (2009) will be discussing the outlook for China-US relations; and Dr Peter Wothers MBE (1988, Natural Sciences) will be looking at the reconstruction of a 1940s model of St Catharine’s College. Members will be able to choose which lecture to attend and all lectures will be available to watch at a later stage.
  • Following the lectures, Members will be able to take an interactive virtual tour through our College. The tour will enable alumni to navigate between different parts of College, where you'll find photos, short videos, up-to-date news, fun facts and information about the history of St Catharine’s.
  • New virtual social spaces via SpatialChat will also be available, where alumni will be able to reunite with friends and classmates by decade. SpatialChat allows you to meet with your friends as though you were with them in person, moving around a room to talk with different groups of people.

Deborah Loveluck comments: "My team and I are delighted to be able to offer all our Members a chance to return virtually to St Catharine’s. The challenging times posed by the pandemic has encouraged us to be versatile and innovative. We have missed meeting Members at St Catharine’s and further afield and hope that the Alumni Festival will provide us all with an opportunity to reconnect regardless of lockdown measures or distance. We would like to make the Alumni Festival a yearly event to provide greater accessibility to all our Members."

College Officers and the Alumni and Development team will be available through the Alumni Festival. We all look forward to virtually welcoming you back to College and chatting with you during the event.
