Dear Alumni and Friends,
In these extraordinary and disturbing times, St Catharine’s remains proud of its close and caring community. As ever, the safety and wellbeing of our students, Fellows, staff and alumni is of paramount importance and guides all of our actions in College in response to the public health emergency caused by Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19).
OUR STUDENTS
You may have seen in the press that the University of Cambridge has announced unprecedented measures in response to COVID-19. Accordingly, the College has let students know that they will not be able to return for the remainder of this academic year. Faculties and departments are making plans to deliver teaching remotely and exploring ways to conduct examinations online, or by other methods of assessment. Where students cannot return home from Cambridge, they will are being supported to the best of our abilities, and may continue to live in College. Financial assistance and welfare resources are also available.
ALUMNI EVENTS
You may have been looking forward to participating in the College’s usual calendar of alumni activities, be it in Cambridge, or elsewhere. Following government advice, we have taken the decision to postpone all upcoming events until the end of June, including the College’s 2020 Telephone Campaign, the Garden Party and Bumps Marquee (13 June), and the Catz40 Summer Party (28 June).
It has always been a pleasure to invite you to St Catharine’s events and we look forward to re-scheduling affected events wherever possible. You can find up-to-date details on the Events page.
CATZ COMMUNITY SPIRIT
While we aren’t able to meet you for the foreseeable future, preserving our connections and community is important during these uncertain times, and we’d love to hear from you. Perhaps you are a key worker helping the response to COVID-19? Maybe being at home will mean you have time to rediscover photos or other mementos from your time at Catz? We would welcome any news that you are able to share with us by email.
We are largely working from home as part of the College’s response plan, and the Alumni and Development Office remains on hand to help you in any way we can.
The College will be sharing updates about our students, Fellows, staff and alumni on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. We hope these snippets of College life will help brighten your days.
With best wishes to you and your loved ones,
Deborah Loveluck
Fellow & Development Director, 2007
