Invitation: Society Annual Reunion and Dinner 21-22 September 2019
This is your personal invitation, as members of the St Catharine’s College Society, to our annual Society Reunion in College, this year on Saturday 21 September; and do bring a partner or friend and stay overnight. Booking details are at the end of this message.
There will be an afternoon seminar in the McGrath Centre, Tea in the SCR (the old Hall), our AGM, Evensong, an Archive Exhibition, a Drinks Reception, and a fine Dinner, followed by further socialising in the Bar if you wish. And jazz!
Our Reunion is for everyone but this year, 2019, is the decennial anniversary for all who matriculated or graduated in ‘the 9s’: 1949, 1959, 1969 …. and so on … so we particularly welcome 'all the 9s' (and also see the next para!). Why not organise your own get-together with your friends? Encourage them to come along, join with everyone else, and sit together over dinner.
Importantly, this is also the 40th anniversary of the first admission of women into the College in 1979 so it’s a great opportunity for women of all years, and particularly those from 1979, to celebrate, and in fact to confirm Lilian Greenwood MP (1984) as our President for the coming year.
Further, we are offering a reduction of £20 per person - for College alumni/ae, but not their guests - who matriculated (started in College) in 2009 and onwards.
We’ll start at 2.30pm with a Seminar when Dr Miranda Griffin will speak about her work on a medieval manuscript in the College’s collection; then Tea at 3.30; the AGM at 4.15; Evensong at 6pm; Drinks Reception at 7; Dinner at 7.30, finishing perhaps around 10pm; then the Bar if you wish. During the afternoon there will also be an exhibition of College records from the archives. Sunday morning breakfast is provided also.
How you spend the afternoon is up to you, but the Dinner is a must – good food and wine and great conviviality; and towards the end of the meal the Master and the outgoing Society President will say a few words.
For the Reception and Dinner the dress code is ‘black tie or dark suit or equivalent’.
There’s student accommodation in College, and you can bring a partner or friend and stay overnight.
All alumni/ae of St Catharine’s are members of the Society, founded in 1923, run by alumni/ae volunteers elected at our AGMs, and with branches around UK and Ireland that organise local events. We also give grants to students from our Society funds, and we help where possible with careers. Our annual reunions back in College span all the generations – a unique experience. And we move towards our centenary in 4 years’ time.
Our Society Reunion is always most enjoyable so do join us, do bring a partner or friend, and do encourage your contemporaries to join you also! Booking details are below
We look forward to seeing you in College on 21 September!
