Ensuring we all play our part: Take the COVID-19 pledge

St Catharine’s College is an inclusive and tolerant community of Fellows, students and staff, all of whom aspire to create a friendly and supportive environment in which to live and work. Everyone is expected to behave in a way that is consistent with membership of this collegiate community, as set out in the College’s existing policies for students, staff and Fellows.

The over-riding principle in all of these policies is to show due respect to others, whether they are Fellows, students or members of staff.

The COVID-19 pandemic requires us all, as members of the St Catharine’s community, to apply this principle in new and specific ways. This Pledge sets out our responsibilities as individuals towards the community in respect of the challenges associated with COVID-19. It is not a legal document, but in reading and signing we demonstrate our acknowledgement of these responsibilities.

As a member of Cambridge University and of St Catharine’s College, I acknowledge that I have a responsibility to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.

I understand that this responsibility includes:

  1. Adhering to all national laws and advice published by the UK Government, including but not limited to those set out at https://www.gov.uk/coronavirus;
  2. Adhering to all University and College rules and guidelines on COVID-19, in particular those set out at https://www.cam.ac.uk/coronavirus/stay-safe-cambridge-uni and at www.caths.cam.ac.uk/covid19;
  3. Adhering to rules and guidelines on self-isolation (including household isolation), on behaviour in College facilities (such as requirements to wear face coverings), on regular hand washing, and on social distancing (avoiding close contact with others not in your household and not meeting socially in groups of more than 6 people);
  4. Supporting to the best of my ability initiatives implemented by the College, the University and the UK Government to monitor the spread of infections, including participating in asymptomatic testing and downloading the NHS Test and Trace app;
  5. Keeping myself informed of, and adhering to, any updates to these rules and guidelines, including by checking emails at least once a day, and regularly monitoring the websites above for updates, especially if prompted by the College; and
  6. Encouraging and supporting others in the St Catharine's community in following laws, rules and guidelines designed to limit the spread of infections.

I understand that I owe the responsibility outlined above to all students, staff and Fellows at St Catharine’s, to all other members of the University, and to the wider community in and around Cambridge.

I understand that not living up to my responsibility can put my own health and that of others at risk, and may also affect the ability of the College and the University to provide educational and pastoral support to its students.

I understand that breaching those rules may be subject to disciplinary actions, in particular in case of severe or repeated breaches.
