Preview of Cambridge Green Week 2022

Thursday 28 April 2022

For the first time ever, student representatives from across the University of Cambridge have clubbed together to organise Cambridge Green Week, an inclusive and diverse series of events running 2–8 May.

Sam Stephenson, an Engineering PhD student and Green Officer on the St Catharine’s MCR Committee that represents our postgraduate community, explains:

“Events are being organised across all the colleges and will be open to everyone. It is a fun way to come together to support more sustainable ways of living, given that other national initiatives like Big Green Week fall outside of term-time.”

Timetable for Cambridge Green Week 2022
Initial timetable for Cambridge Green Week – updates to be confirmed by organisers via Facebook.

In addition, there will be opportunities for students to engage in Cambridge Green Week without leaving St Catharine’s:

  • 2 May: Litter picking walk leaving from the Porters' Lodge at 2pm, led by Ally Barrett
  • 4 May: JCR Green Week Vegan Formal Dinner
  • 5 May: MCR Green Week Formal Dinner
  • 5 May: Plant and kitchenware sale at 3pm in Main Court
  • TBC: FemSoc event on sustainable period
  • 8 May: Green Week sermon at Evensong

Emilia Whitehead and Zsófi Balogh, first-year Classics and Geography undergraduates and Ethical and Environmental Officers for the St Catharine’s JCR Committee, added:

“Look out for potted plants decorating tables at the JCR formal because we will be selling them Main Court later in the week. We’re both also helping to run the University-wide plant sale and clothes swap and it would be great to see familiar faces from Catz coming along.”
