Dr John Thompson
Dr John Thompson's research interests are centred on the history of the USA. His first research was on the early twentieth-century reform movement known as Progressivism, but he later came to focus on the history of US foreign policy, and particularly the internal debates about this. His publications include Progressivism (1979), Reformers and War: American Progressive Publicists and the First World War (1987) and Woodrow Wilson (2002). His latest book, A Sense of Power: The Roots of America's Global Role (2015) seeks to explain why the United States came to assume the wide-ranging and strenuous world role it has played for the last several decades.
