Graduate History Bursaries

The Graduate History Bursaries are available to students undertaking an MPhil degree in History at St Catharine's College and will be awarded on the basis of academic excellence.  The value of each bursary is up to £10,000. 

Applicants must have named St Catharine’s as their 1st or 2nd choice of College on their University application form and hold a formal offer of admission prior to 30 March. Where a successful applicant has been awarded membership at another College, they would be expected to transfer their membership to St Catharine’s.

Application Procedure

Please note that a separate application to the University of Cambridge for admission to a graduate course in History must be made by the applicant before applying for the bursary. Candidates should thus submit their application to the Graduate Admissions Office at the earliest possible opportunity. To do so, please visit

Once you have received an offer from the University of Cambridge, please complete the application form, and send it to along with the following documents:

  • your application to the University of Cambridge
  • letter of offer of admission to the University of Cambridge
  • undergraduate transcript
  • transcript of any further degrees
  • research proposal

In addition, please ask two referees to submit a letter of reccommendation (in PDF format) to with the subject line "Reference for  APPLICANT'S NAME - MPhil History Bursary"


Applications for the 2018/19 academic year will be accepted from 1 January 2018 until 12 noon GMT on 30 March 2018. Please note that incomplete or late applications will not be considered.

The College expects to announce the Bursary in May for the forthcoming academic year. Where a candidate is currently engaged in a course of study, the Bursary will be conditional upon the successful completion of their course.
