Sports highlights (Weeks 3 & 4)

Thursday 27 May 2021

The following highlights from various sports clubs and teams were compiled from recent reports. If you have a result that you'd like to feature in the next round-up, please contact comms@caths.cam.ac.uk.

University Rowing

The Lightweight Men’s Crew competed against Oxford on 23 May, with Matthew Edge (2018, Natural Sciences) in the stroke seat. Sadly, Oxford crossed the line a length and a half up. The squad will be competing at the British Universities & Colleges Sport Rowing Regatta and the Henley Royal Regatta this summer. (Cambridge University Boat Club)

University Rugby

The Men's first team returned to competitive rugby after a fourteen month hiatus with a victory over Cambridge RFC (50-19) on 22 May. St Catharine’s was represented by both Etienne Dussartre (2020, Business Administration) and Alex King (2019, Natural Sciences). (Cambridge University RUFC)

Mixed Netball

The St Catharine’s squad triumphed over Magdalene on 17 May with an impressive final score of 17-2. (The Kittbag)

Mixed Hockey

Having lost out in the Cuppers competition, the final week of College-level competition ended on a high note with a 5-1 victory over Selwyn, thanks to “great liquid hockey” from the St Catharine’s team. (The Kittbag)

Men’s Football

Having secured a place in the semi-final, the team were unfortunately unable to replicate last year’s success (winners of the Plate competition) and were knocked out by Downing. The final score (2-4) did not do justice to a “really strong performance”. (The Kittbag)
