The following exchanges are organised by St Catharine’s directly with our partner institutions, in addition to the wide range of programmes established by the University of Cambridge to enhance learning opportunities for undergraduates and postgraduates, including the year abroad offered as part of the Modern and Medieval Languages Tripos.

California Institute of Technology (Caltech) | Pasadena, USA

  • A successful applicant from St Catharine’s will receive a bursary to visit Caltech for a 10-week placement, starting in the last week in June.
  • Applications open in Michaelmas Term for a visit the next summer.
  • Natural Sciences and Engineering students are eligible to apply.

Doshisha University | Kyoto, Japan

  • A successful applicant from St Catharine’s will spend a full academic year at Doshisha University and can apply for a scholarship from the Japan Student Services Organisation (JASSO) to help cover expenses. If a JASSO scholarship is not available, the College will provide modest financial assistance (dependent on need) to the successful candidate.
  • Some basic understanding (or better) of Japanese is necessary, advanced knowledge is not required.
  • Applications open in Lent Term for the proceeding academic year.
  • All undergraduates and postgraduates are eligible to apply, although applicants from Asian and Middle Eastern Studies courses are particularly encouraged.

Heidelberg University | Heidelberg, Germany

  • St Catharine’s students are able to apply to visit for a whole academic year or a one-month summer school.
  • Applications open in Lent Term for visits the next summer/autumn.
  • All undergraduates and postgraduates are eligible to apply.
