Woodlark Society Luncheon, Saturday 16 March 2024

The Master and Fellows of St Catharine's College have the pleasure of inviting members of the Woodlark Society to a Luncheon, to be held in College on Saturday 16 March 2024.

 

Members are invited to arrive from 12:30 pm, for a Drinks Reception in the McGrath Centre and there will be the opportunity to view the exhibitions in the McGrath Centre and the First Floor Gallery (located above the Hall).  

Lunch will be served at 1 pm in the Hall. 

At 2:30 pm, there will be a lecture in the McGrath Centre given by Professor Tony Watts OBE (Fellow Commoner 2014), titled 'City of Refuge: Evacuation of University of London Colleges to Cambridge in the Second World War'.

After the lecture there will another chance to explore the various exhibitions around College. 

The dress code is lounge suit or equivalent.

About the Speaker: 

Professor Tony Watts OBE (Fellow Commoner 2014) was joint founder of the Careers Research and Advisory Centre (CRAC) in Cambridge, was for many years Director of the National Institute for Career Education and Counselling (NICEC), and is Emeritus Professor of Career Development at the University of Derby. He holds degrees in History (Cambridge) and in Sociology (York), and honorary degrees from The Open University, the University of Derby, and Edinburgh Napier University. He has published many books and articles, and was founder and for many years editor of the British Journal of Guidance and Counselling. He has lectured in over sixty countries, has carried out many comparative studies of career guidance systems, and has been a consultant to the European Commission, OECD, UNESCO and the World Bank. He was awarded an OBE in 1994 for his services to education. His passions include his family, cricket, and early music. Since retirement he has been involved in reviving Cambridge Handel Opera, teaching a University of the Third Age course on Handel operas and oratorios, writing a family history and carrying out social history projects (e.g. on the evacuation of London University colleges to Cambridge in WWII).
