Graduation is organised by the College's Tutorial Office; read more about graduation here.

After graduation, the Alumni and Development Office is usually the best point of contact within the College for any administrative queries. Below are some answers to frequently asked questions.

Alumni contact details

Please note that the information on the alumni database will be used for inviting you to events, including the MA ceremony and dinner mentioned below, so if you haven't updated your details for a while, please do so using the Alumni records update form. You can vread our data protection statement here.

We are happy to try and help Members reconnect with each other, and occasionally receive requests from alumni who wish to contact their peers. In line with GDPR, we will never divulge contact details without first contacting the person concerned to obtain their express permission.

Certificates and transcripts

Degree certificates and transcripts are obtained through the University Student Registry. If you would like a letter simply confirming that you were a student at St Catharine's, please contact the Tutorial Office

Verification of attendance

The Alumni and Development Office cannot provide references for academic ventures or employment. However, in certain circumstances we are able to verify a student's attendance at the College by providing a letter to this effect. For example, upon request we issue verification letters for those wishing to join the Oxford and Cambridge Club.

Taking up the MA

Six years and one term after matriculating, a Bachelor of Arts is entitled to take his or her Master of Arts degree, either in person or in absence, provided that two years have elapsed since the BA degree was awarded.

The Praelector’s Secretary will contact all those who become eligible each year in January and invite them to attend the Congregation in March. When you have confirmed with the Praelector’s Secretary that you wish to attend, then your Senate House tickets will be sent out accordingly.

If, for any reason, you cannot attend the March ceremony, you may proceed at another ceremony by prior arrangement; but most newly eligible alumni return to receive their MA degrees in March.

A special dinner is arranged for the Graduands the evening before the MA Ceremony, by the Alumni and Development Office. This is known as the 'Eve of MA Dinner'. You will usually be contacted separately about this.
