Access our music facilities

There are two main rehearsal spaces in College, both of them on the Island Site.

The Music Room

The Music Room is the College's main rehearsal space, as well as being used as a robing room for the College Choir and the Girls' Choir. It contains a Schimmel grand piano and space for an ensemble of up to 10 people.

To gain access, you must first register with The Director of Music (email: music@caths.cam.ac.uk), stating your name, year, instrument and level of experience. Once your registration is confirmed, you are entitled to use the room, either when you see from the diary that it is free or - to ensure you get a specific time - by reserving in advance. Advance bookings can be made up to 72 hours before the time of the booking by writing to music@caths.cam.ac.uk.

Entry to the Music Room requires a special swipe card which can be signed out at the Porter's Lodge.

The Chapel

The College's Chapel may be used for practice only by those specially authorised by the Director of Music; access is generally restricted music students, choir members and instrumental award holders. The chapel is home to Steinway B grand piano and an organ designed by William Johnson (restored by Flentrop).

The Chapel piano and the organ are accessed with keys that can be signed out at the Porters' Lodge.

Other College keyboards

The College owns a number of electronic keyboards which will be allocated to music students, music award holders and others, on application to the Director of Music at music@caths.cam.ac.uk.
