Law Fellows and students visit the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom

Friday 24 January 2020

On 14 January 2020, Law Fellows and students from St Catharine's visited the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom in London. Led by Drs Liron Shmilovits and Peter Candy, the group observed a hearing, enjoyed a tour of the building and had the pleasure of meeting with a Justice of the Supreme Court, the Rt Hon Lord Lloyd-Jones.

"This visit was a unique opportunity for our students to see for themselves the workings of the UK’s most important court and talk with one of the UK’s leading judges. We are deeply grateful to Lord Lloyd-Jones for giving us this opportunity and so much of his time," commented Dr Shmilovits.

"Visiting the Supreme Court and being able to speak to Lord Lloyd-Jones was an amazing opportunity. Observing an appeal first-hand revealed a more practical side of law that we see less often in our academic studies, especially for those who had never been to a courtroom before. Lord Lloyd-Jones was also an incredibly friendly speaker and gave us an insight into the life of a Supreme Court justice; I would highly recommend for any aspiring or present law student to visit the Supreme Court at least once!" added Charlie Page (2017, Law).
