St Catharine's in New York

Professor Sir Chris Clark, Fellow of St Catharine’s and Regius Professor of History at the University of Cambridge, recently gave a lecture at an event for all Cambridge alumni, organised by Cambridge in America. His talk, “Visions of Power in History”, brought together his thoughts on the wide-ranging topic of power, which will be the basis of a future book. There was a great turnout for the lecture; over 100 alumni and guests attended.

Sir Chris and I then hosted a private St Catharine’s dinner at the Penn Club.  The atmosphere was extremely warm and inclusive; the group was a good cross-section of our Members, all interested in talking to each other and about the College.  We were pleased to welcome alumni from other areas, including San Francisco and Boston. St Catharine’s is grateful to Michael (1982) and Elaine George for sponsoring this event, and for their continuing generosity to the College.

I will be returning to New York in late May 2018 with the Master, Professor Sir Mark Welland, for our annual College supper party.
