Catz’ dedicated team of student callers are looking forward to speaking with some of our alumni during the 2023 Telephone Campaign happening from 18 September - 2 October. Meet our team of student callers...
2020, History and MML
“I’m Anna, an incoming fourth-year History and French student. I’ve just returned from my year abroad, which I spent studying History at the Sorbonne in Paris, and I’m really excited to return to Catz this year! I’m passionate about the College and when I was in second year, I was on the JCR as the Accommodations Officer, which gave me lots of fantastic opportunities to help to make decisions about student life. I’m looking forwards to speaking to alumni about all things St Catharine’s!”
“Hello! My name is Elin, an incoming third year student at Catz studying Geography. In my free time, I enjoy reading and yoga. I am excited to be involved in this campaign and am looking forward to speaking with alumni.”
2020, Human Social and Political Sciences
“I'm Sahana, an incoming third year HSPS-er. I've just left my posts as JCR BAME Officer and Social Media Officer at CU Brown Girl Link Up so I'm keen to talk anything access and diversity. Looking forward to meeting with alumni!”
2021, Veterinary Sciences
“A northern lass going into my 3rd year of Veterinary Medicine intercalating in Pharmacology. My interests span from tinkering in the garage, wandering the fells of Yorkshire and bouldering, to playing brass instruments in pit bands, crochet and listening to radio comedy.”
“Hi, my name is Lucas! I am an incoming finalist Economics student. I grew up abroad in Turkey, Belgium and Kenya before coming to Cambridge. In my spare time, I am President of the University Economics Society and I love to read.”
"Hi! I’m Jess, a third-year Geographer at Catz. I have a particular interest in physical geography and am focusing on Antarctic volcanology for my dissertation. Outside of academics, I have competed for the University Athletics Club throughout my time at Cambridge and am the Women’s team captain this year. I have also been involved in the College and University-wide Christian Union and am passionate about creating a welcoming space at university for those of any faith or none!”
“Hello! My name is June and I am a Music student going into my third and final year. I grew up in Hong Kong but came to the UK in Year 9 to pursue my love for music! I am the Organ Scholar at St Catharine’s, so I am heavily involved in the College music life. I was also Freshers’ Representative in my second year and helped to organise Freshers’ Week for over 140 incoming students. Outside of academia, I am an editor of Catharine, a College-based feminist magazine formed last year!”
“I'm Nusrat, an incoming third-year Lawyer at Catz! Alongside my studies, I've been involved in many societies, including CU Brown Girl Link Up which I co-founded, and Bangla Society. In my free time, I love to read and explore new places. I look forward to connecting with alumni and having interesting discussions with them!”
2022, PhD in Toxicology
“I’m Gemma, a first year PhD student at the MRC toxicology Unit. My research is focused on immune related side effects of various therapies. I am specifically looking at CAR T cell therapy toxicities and drug induced autoimmunity. Outside of my studies, I love to hike. I have also just completed my first triathlon and hope to join the University club next term. I also enjoy yoga and love the St Catherine’s weekly yoga sessions. I am very excited to be a part of this years campaign!”
2021, Theology, Religion, and Philosophy of Religion
“I was eager to join the Telephone Campaign as I have had such positive experiences talking to Catz alumni over the past year, for example at the Central Spaces opening. Catz has been such a welcoming and friendly community and I have realised how that support spans across cohorts, so I am excited to talk to those who have come before us, to hear about their experiences and to give them a taste of Catz life as it is now!"
“Hi! I’m Nathaniel, an incoming third-year lawyer at Catz. Outside of my studies, I enjoy lots of University sports, especially Tennis. I also enjoy reading and learning new languages. I am excited to talk to Catz alumni about their experiences at the College and to contribute to its future development!"
2021, Psychological and Behavioural Sciences
“Hello! I’m Abby and I am a third-year Psychological and Behavioural Sciences student at Catz. In College I enjoy being part of the Catz Tea Society, and am looking forward to getting more involved in our Yarn Society (having recently embarked on learning how to crochet, and already learnt to knit)! In my free time, I often am reading multiple books at a time, baking for friends and family, and always finding new films and TV to watch. I am especially fond of the cosy community in College and the abundance of relaxing spaces to study, afforded by the newly renovated Central Spaces project!”
“I’m a Music student from Manchester, going into my second year at Catz. Unsurprisingly, when I’m not studying for my degree, I’m doing even more music - including singing in Catz’s chapel choir, playing in as many performances as possible and conducing two of Cambridge’s orchestras. I play recorder and oboe and am really looking forward to being a part of the CAMRAM scheme this year (so I will private and ensemble teaching at the Royal Academy of Music)!”
