Billy Grimwood (1959–2023)

It is with great sadness that St Catharine’s College shares the news that Billy Grimwood, who was employed as College Painter, died unexpectedly on 23 March 2023. The College flag will be flown at half-mast in his memory on 21 April 2023.

Billy joined St Catharine’s in 1999 and is fondly remembered by everyone who knew him at St Catharine’s. A service has been organised in the College Chapel at 1pm on Monday 24 April to which staff, students and Fellows are warmly invited to join together to remember Billy.

Professor Sir Mark Welland, Master of St Catharine's, commented, "On behalf of the College community, I extend my deepest sympathies to Billy’s family. Through his dedicated service to St Catharine’s over almost 24 years, Billy played an important part in ensuring the College remained a welcoming place for our community to live, work and study. He will be sorely missed and we are supporting his colleagues as we all come to terms with his loss.”
