St Catharine's in Toronto

Despite being the eve of the May long weekend, we were pleased to welcome a good number of our Members to the St Catharine’s dinner at the University of Toronto Faculty Club, the first event organised for the reinvigorated St Catharine’s group in eastern Canada. We are grateful to the volunteers from the Toronto group, Nick Tunnacliffe (1961) and Colin Steel (1964), for their efforts, as well as to Professor Henry Auster (1960) for his assistance with the venue.

Particularly memorable for me were the anecdotes and recollections of St Catharine’s given by those present, which brought the evening alive.

I was pleased to have the opportunity to  speak to the group about the College today, and about the increasing international activity made possible by our volunteer-led groups. The Master, Professor Sir Mark Welland, and I will be visiting Toronto in late May 2018, when Sir Mark will be giving a talk on Nanoscience.

In addition, I am looking forward to my trip to the West Coast in September with the Master when, for the first time ever, St Catharine’s will be hosting an event in Vancouver (Monday 11 September). Sir Mark will be giving the keynote address at our events in both San Francisco (9 September) and Vancouver.
