Summer accommodation funds

 

Summer vacation awards may be awarded to current students staying in St Catharine's accommodation over the Long Vacation whilst taking part in research projects or academic-related internships in or near Cambridge (not directly related for parts of undergraduate or postgraduate course work). Please note that postgraduate applicants are only eligible to apply for the St Catharine’s College Alumni Society Student Award Fund (see section B below).

Students wishing to apply for a) the St Catharine’s Summer Project Accommodation Award and/or b) the St Catharine’s College Alumni Society Student Award Fund can use the same application form.

A. St Catharine’s Summer Project Accommodation Award

Free accommodation is available annually for around 10 undergraduate students taking part in research projects or academic-related internships in or near Cambridge during Long Vacation. Students will be eligible for free accommodation in a college room for a maximum period of 10 weeks.

The following criteria apply:

  • Projects are during the Long Vacation
  • Projects are not part of undergraduate course work
  • Awards are for a maximum of 10 weeks
  • Awards are subject to the availability of a suitable college room
  • You must stay in college accommodation during the period of the award
  • You must have the support of both your Tutor and Director of Studies
  • You are not receiving remuneration of over £250 per week (award will be reduced accordingly)
  • All recipients of the St Catharine’s Summer Project Accommodation Award will be required to provide a written report at the end of their project or internship.

Successful applicants will be required to submit a project report no later than Friday 27 September 2024. Unless an extension has been agreed, failure to meet this deadline may result in the request for repayment of the award.

  • All applications will be assessed and awarded by the Tutors’ Committee
  • The deadline for all applications is Monday 22 April 2024. We hope to inform applicants of the decision by the end of May 2024.

B. St Catharine’s College Alumni Society Student Award Fund

The object of this fund shall be to support St Catharine's College by providing assistance to student members of the College.

Every year, the St Catharine’s College Alumni Society Student Award Fund will provide funds to cover free accommodation in a college room for up to three current students taking part in research projects or academic-related internships in or near Cambridge during Long Vacation. Students will be eligible for free accommodation in a college room for a maximum period of 10 weeks.  

The following criteria apply:

  • Individual student members of the College, both undergraduate and postgraduate, are eligible to apply for these awards.
  • Undergraduate students must be in receipt of a Cambridge Bursary
  • Projects are during the Long Vacation
  • Projects are not part of required course work
  • Awards are for a maximum of 10 weeks
  • Awards are subject to the availability of a suitable college room
  • You must stay in college accommodation during the period of the award
  • You must have the support of both your Tutor and Director of Studies and/or supervisor
  • You are not receiving remuneration for this project/internship
